LGBTQ is an acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning. The “LGB” in this term refers to sexual orientation. Many lesbians prefer to be called lesbian rather than gay. Sexual orientation includes sexual attraction, sexual behavior, and sexual fantasies.

The transgender population is diverse in gender identity, expression, and sexual orientation. Over the past decade, the language used to discuss sexual orientation and gender identity has also changed. Terms that were forgotten or unused have been reclaimed.
